Let’s Know More About Her Journey

Ramya had always wanted to run her own Dance school. It was her Children’s annual day that inspired her to take the leap. She got an opportunity to showcase her talent on that stage which empowered her toward her dream.

She started her school in the basement of her apartment five years ago. The covid phase created a beautiful opportunity to explore. She took this opportunity to explore the online platform to conduct classes. That helped her widen her teaching spectrum to all over the world.  She has students from Asia, the USA, Europe, Canada & Philippines.

She now has her independent Dance school – Kala Munch located on Bel Road, Bangalore

What Was Her Driving factor?

Ramya derives her energy from dancing. It’s what drives her whether she is happy or sad. Practicing a couple of facial expressions (Abhinayam) gets her energy back. While working in Dubai, Ramya assisted one of the Bharatanatyam exponents. There was never a point when Ramya gave up on dancing. It has grown on her since her childhood. When she delivered her baby she had to make a choice. To call to make between a well-paid corporate career or dancing was quite tough. Even so, she chose dancing above all. She believes that it’s one of the best decisions she made in life. She says there’s a lot to learn and yet a long way to go!

What Are The Challenges She Faces?

A journey without challenges is incomplete. Ramya has had a lot of challenges to deal with, she explains. As a matter of fact, during her learning period, Bharatanatyam was a very long course. She took two years to complete the basic steps called  Adavus. This is learned before you start the dance numbers called Margams.

She says the current learning process has come a long way. Parents and kids want to perform on stage within a couple of months of practice. Change with the changing times is what she believes. She calls this “The instant recipe era!”

So she plans her work along with the changing time. Keeping in mind the crisp movements of Hasta Mudras ( hand gestures) is very important she says.

A few challenges she faces are about correcting dance postures. In online classes, the students have access to videos. But, her offline classes have her attention right there. She can correct them on the spot!

Ramya is a dedicated mother and a passionate dancer.  She conducts Bharatanatyam dance classes online and offline. So join her and dance with her!
